1st weekend in May, is now a fixed dated on Badminton Malta’s international calendar.

7 young athletes will be participating in this annual meeting of badminton held in the beautiful town of Merano, in the North of Italy.  Around 200 players from Croatia, Czech Republic, Malta, Slovenia, Austria, Italy and Germany are expected to compete over 2 days.  They will be accompanied by coaches Edmond Abela and Patrick Cassar.

This year we will see the International debut for the 2 youngest players of the contingent, brothers Isaac and Neil Axisa, who will participate in the U13 and U11 respectively.  Mark Abela, Sam Cassar and Sarah Fava mark their third participation, this year in the U15 age category, whilst it is the second time for Matthew Abela, in the U17 age category and Nigel Degaetano in the U19 age category.  They will all be playing in the singles and doubles events.

This opportunity will continue to help these players not only gain more experience but better their level even more, following the invaluable experience gained in the ISF World Badminton School Championships held just over a month ago.

Badminton Malta’s President, Chris Spiteri together with General Secretary, Jo’Anne Cassar will be visiting the Palabadminton in Milan, Italy’s badminton center, to attend a meeting with the, Fabio Morino, Director of technical development.

Badminton Malta expressed its gratitude to the Malta Olympic Committee’s Youth Elite Scheme, SportMalta for their ongoing support.
