Encouraging number of participants

With a good number of participants for the 4th Ranking Tournament this season, we started the competition on court last Wednesday with the first round of qualifications. Klara O’Berg and youngsters Francesca Clark and Alisha Gauci Azzopardi passed the first stage. Tomorrow we will proceed with the qualifying stage of the Women’s Singles.

We will be starting at 1pm with 4 matches, Francesca Clark meeting Alisha Gauci Azzopardi and her sister Sarah Gauci Azzopardi will be facing Lauren Azzopardi. Eleanor Abela will challenge Ann Marie Bezzina and Elenia Haber will be meeting Klara O’Berg for a place in the Semi Finals of the Qualfiers. The winners of the Semi Finals will pass to the main draw.

Men’s Round starts next week

Next week we will be starting the men’s round on Saturday and continue the main draw of the Women’s Singles. Having more entries gives the opportunity for everyone to have more games and better opportunity to meet against different players in different rounds.

As the Ranking tournament is played with a compass system, all those who don’t manage to pass to the next round will still be playing each other to play the same number of games for more experience and fun.

Badminton Malta is satisfied with the increase of participants and will continue working to have more players participate in the Ranking Tournaments while exploring other possibilities to create more competitions for everyone.
