Yesterday saw the start of the 45th edition of the Malta National Championships organised by Badminton Malta. Games will be split over the five traditional categories – Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

In the Men’s Singles categories, the first two seeds Matthew Abela and Stefan Salomone made it to the semi-finals, where they will be facing Stephen Ferrante and Nigel Degaetano respectively. These players had the best of Kyle Sciberras, Owen Grech, Kenneth Vella ex-National champion, and Mark Abela, in some closely fought games.

Reigning champion, Fiorella M Sadoswki will be taking on Tiziana Mifsud in the Women’s Singles semi-final, whilst the other semi-final will be a teenage affair between Sarah Fava and Yanika Polidano.

Today(Sunday) will be dedicated to the Mixed Doubles event seeing it through to the semi-finals. Games start at 2.30pm at Kirkop Sports Complex.
