A busy week in the local and international scene

Never a dull moment lately at Badminton Malta with the latest achievement qualifying at the European Championships with Matthew Abela and local competitions going on together with international competitions. Locally the Mixed Teams League, Ranking Tournament and three players part of International Tournaments.

Two of them, Sam Cassar and Mark Abela left today to Israel for the Israel Junior 2018 where they will be participating in a Badminton World sanctioned U19 tournament at Rishon LeZion.

Sam Cassar will start his competition by facing a player playing on home ground Leon Kugel. He will be playing on Thursday at around 3:30pm. Mark Abela will be facing Mexican Jorge Rodriguez at around 4pm.

Looking to earn ranking points in Israel

On Friday Abela and Cassar will be also playing together the doubles tournament and will start their challenge against an Israeli pair Rotem Mogilner and Dan Simanovsky. Although not having easy draws, having had good performances lately in International competitions encourages Abela and Cassar to hope for advancement in the tournament and some ranking points.

Cassar and Abela look forward to the tournament and stated, “From this tournament we are expecting that we give the best performance that we can and hopefully get some ranking points to continue improving our rankings.”

Abela and Cassar were also paired with other players to be part of the Mixed Doubles Tournament. Goodluck!
