Cassar and Abela not strong enough against the Eastern Europeans

Yesterday, Mark Abela and Sam Cassar continued their experience at the Israel Junior 2018 and started their commitment with the second round of the Mixed Doubles where Sam Cassar, paired with Danish Emilie Renee Bjerg Jensen lost against Russian pair Stanislav Proskura and Vilena Asfandiiarova 10-21, 15-21 and Mark Abela, paired with Danish Emilie Faaborg lost against Ukranian Mykhaylo Makhnovskiy and Anastasiya Prozorova 11-21,11-21.

Abela and Cassar then passed on to the Men’s Doubles where they faced Israeli pair Rotem Mogilner & Dan Simanovsky and lost 17-21, 19-21. It was a close match all along but the Israeli had the upper hand on the Maltese pair.

Asked to comment about the match Cassar expressed that, “We could have played much better but it was still a good match and we look forward for more challenges and to develop our doubles game further. All in all it was a good tournament and we will continue working hard to improve and get more positive results.”

All eyes back to the local Ranking Tournament and All England

Now that all international participation has ended for this week we will get all our attention back to the local Ranking Tournament that will continue today and also to the final phases of the All England Championships where we can expect some great matches today in the Semi-Finals and tomorrow in the Finals.

Enjoy badminton during this year’s St. Patrick’s long weekend! ☺
