The delegates have decided. Badminton will continue to be played with 3 games to 21 after the proposal wasn’t backed by two thirds of the delegates. 129 delegates out of 252 votes cast were in favour but this was not enough to make the change.

Another proposal to reduce on-court coaching and to introduce timeouts was withdrawn as this was related to the score change. During the same meeting, the council was given the mandate to continue experimenting the fixed height service system  after managing to attract 177 votes.

“Our membership has spoken and we respect their decision to retain three games to 21 points, though clearly our proposal resonated with a significant section of our membership,” said BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer. Now the Badminton World will focus on the upcoming Thomas & Uber Cup that will start tomorrow.
