The Badminton Malta Annual General Meeting took place this week at CAK Centre in Birkirkara. The meeting was attended by a number of club delegates, members, as well as a representative of the Malta Olympic Committee, who was present as an observer. During this meeting, the Executive Committee was reconfirmed to lead the Association for another term, that of 2 years.

First items on the agenda were the approval of minutes of previous AGM and EGM; the Administrative Report was presented and approved, as well as the Financial Reports for season 2016-17.

Some amendments to the statute were proposed and the main changes approved were the following:

1. Players, officials, coaches and other members now have the possibility to become members of the Association directly. This change has been discussed thoroughly as by means of this measure, bureaucracy is decreased and it can encourage more players to be part of BMs structures. Nonetheless, being a member in a club is highly beneficial and we encourage everyone to be part of any one of our local clubs to continue improving our level to higher standards. Associate membership will be valid for the whole season, and cannot be converted to full membership, meaning an associate member will not be able to represent a team in the Mixed Teams League. However, an associate member will be eligible to take part in all other BM activities and competitions.

2. The notice for a council meeting had been extended from 2 days in advance to 7 days. This will give the Executive Council members and the Club Delegates enough notice to make the necessary arrangements to attend the meeting.

Another proposed change was that to include the right of appeal in front of an independent body and everyone agreed that such clause would be beneficial. The Executive Committee suggested it will be working further on formulating this clause, when the Statute Commission is formed. In this way, the clause can be appropriately drafted and will be presented for approval in the Statute during the next General Meeting together with other suggestions.

Another point discussed during the meeting was the need to improve on communication with the members and their representatives. The Executive Committee will be making its best to develop more on communication channels and keep everyone updated with the important decisions which are of interest to its members.

We thank all those who found time to attend and put forward their contribution throughout the meeting, including Mr. William Beck, Vice-President of the MOC, who was present during the meeting.

We look forward for another productive season!
