Badminton Malta is delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Haynes as the National Academy’s new Head Coach and Technical Director. This is another exciting step for a more professional setup at the National Academy. As our own Matthew Abela has recently participated for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Badminton Malta is excited to continue raising the bar for the sport and has high hopes Haynes’ contribution will be invaluable in achieving this.

Haynes who was previously a consultant coach for Badminton Wales has a plethora of high-performance coaching experience. Haynes was the Team Manager and Coach for Guernsey at the Gold Coast Commonwealth games 2018 and has himself represented Guernsey on multiple occasions, winning Team Gold and Mixed Doubles Bronze at 2 International Island Games. Playing Badminton since 13 Haynes has worked with a variety of skill levels and age groups and Badminton Malta is eager to see what he can bring to the Academy.

Owen Grech, President of Badminton Malta expressed his enthusiasm over the appointment “This addition will continue giving a better service to all those who are part of our academy and we look forward to working with Matthew and keep investing in our players to help them reach the top level in Badminton. ”
